Grok (x.com) not working in Firefox anymore
Hi,
for some time now I can't use Grok(x.com) in Firefox(137.0.1 (64-Bit)) anymore. "Something went wrong" is always the answer.
Troubleshooting Mode doesn't help. Disabling any site restrictions, neither.
Any one else? Any ideas?
Cheers

Have you contacted with website support? What answer?
Hi, do you mean on the site at https://grok.com/ or is it integrated with X somehow? Maybe you could describe the specific steps to reproduce the error.
Hi,
I am using Grok on x.com. The steps are, I enter anything and out comes: "Something went wrong".
Oh, I see it here: https://x.com/i/grok
Note: I had to sign in to X to use that address.
Seems to be working fine for me. The only thing I can see that I'm blocking is DoubleClick (according to the Tracking Protection drop-down panel, accessible from the "shield" icon next to the lock at the left end of the address bar).
Do you have any other content blockers running? Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix may block required elements on a site. Usually you can find a toolbar button for each add-on to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you sometimes need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.
Hi Jeff,
thanks for your reply.
If it works for you, it must be something wrong on my end then. Since I tried it in troubleshoot mode I guess Addons won't be the reason? I was kinda certain that it had something to to with Firefox's AI integration. That they somehow blocked competition..
Maybe there is a setting difference that causes the issue. Could you try:
New Profile Test
This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.
Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Test2025, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.
Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.
Scroll down to Test2025 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.
Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.
Does Grok work via X in the new profile?
When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Test2025 will remain available for future testing.)
Hi,
after 6 Days of two tabs staring at me and my fear of deleting something, I finally followed your well written steps and can confirm, that the Problem does not occur in the new clean Firefox Profile. Grok works in the new Profile.
I did a MozBackUp before. Done that for years. Most likely the culprit? Grok used to work just fine a few weeks ago though.
The Backup file is 1.75GB! =] (cleaned Cookies and Cache before)
So what now? I've done so many changes to the about:config that I cannot remember all of them, but will probably notice any deletion once I start browsing again, which I kinda want to avoid since this is always a hassle for me to find all the steps again, to get to my known browsing experience e.g. "gif run only once" and small stuff similar to that.
Hurts, but cleaning it up is probably the most logical step. Or I'll just use the new Test2025 Profile to use Grok. =]
Any way to narrow down the problem without having to clean it up?
Thank you!
Most long-time users have a lot of modified preferences in about:config/prefs.js so it can be quite time-consuming to determine what setting (if it is a setting rather than a site permission or add-on) is the culprit. You can experiment with some file transfers between your regular and test profiles to see which one, if any, causes the problem. The most relevant files, other than extensions, are:
- cookies.sqlite - the cookies database - if clearing cookies resolves the issue
- perrmissions.sqlite - the site permissions database
- prefs.js - modified preferences, including both your own settings changes and data recorded by Firefox such as the last time it performed a particular task
While the test profile is closed, if you copy/paste one of those files from your regular profile "root directory" to the test profile "root directory" and then relaunch the test profile and try X/Grok, does any of them cause the problem?
I might do further testing at some time. I'll probably just clean it up. Using this Firefox Profile for about 19 years..
Thanks for your help.
