Import From HTML

more options

I do a lot of research, and may have 300 - 400 tabs open. 2. I needed to do a clean install of Win 11, so I saved my open tabs as bookmark, I checked and they were all there. I also saved the folder from AppData Roaming - Firefox\Firefox\Profiles\ivdajzll.default-release\sessionstore-backups. Only when I open a tab with about:sessionrestore, the below Restore Session button is grayed out.

I then exported my book marks as an HTML file. I installed FF, opened up bookmarks manager, and chose to import from html, pointed to my saved file and selected open, nothing happens. When I look at the side panel in bookmarks manager, my book marks have not been added.

2. I also tried the second option by opening Settings / General / Import Data and Select the Bookmarks from HTML file option. I point to my saved html file, it spins for a few seconds, says success and I click on the Done button, still my bookmarks have not been added.

BTW, just to make sure the html was good, I was to import from the html into Edge, and the tabs were all able to be opened. I rarely use Edge, FF has a better tab system, so I want the tabs back in FireFox.

Let's start with bookmarks.

(1) By any chance, did you keep a backup of the bookmarkbackups folder from your old profile? The following article describes how to restore one those files (click Choose File and point Firefox to the folder with your backup): Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. If that works, you won't need to use Import.

(2) If backup/restore isn't an option, then Import should work. However, when you import from an HTML file, there's a good chance that instead of being restored to the original locations, the bookmarks will be added to a new folder at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu titled Imported Bookmarks. It also might be added to Other Bookmarks.

If you expand Bookmarks Menu in the left column of the Library window (Ctrl+Shift+O), or Other Bookmarks, can you find an Imported Bookmarks folder under either category? Assuming so, you can drag and drop or cut and paste from one category to another there in the Library window.

Regarding open tabs:

about:sessionstore about:sessionrestore isn't intended to be used on-demand, only when Firefox has failed to automatically restore tabs after a crash. So I'm not surprised you're not seeing a list there. Either Firefox already restored the previous session, or it is available through History > Restore Previous Session, or it's not available.

Which file do you want to restore in your new installation? If you aren't sure and want a clickable list for reference, I have a converter you could try:

Drag and drop a file onto the large box on the following page, then click the "Scrounge URLs" button:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html

If you don't get a list within 15 seconds, that probably means the script is caught in a loop. You may need to close the tab to avoid a tab crash and then try again in a new tab.

If you get a useful list, use the "Save List" button to archive it as a web page of clickable links for future reference, in case no other approach is successful.
