Missing Bar at Bottom of Screen

I've always had an informative single line "bar" at the base of my screen indicating available/open programs, USBs, etc. I don't know what it's called. I don't know why it disappeared today. And . . . I'd appreciate help it getting it to reappear (and learning the correct terminology.) Although in my 90s, I try to keep up with technology as much as possible. Thanks for your help.

You haven't said what operating system you are on. If it's Windows the thing you want is the "Task Bar." On Linux it's the "Panel." I don't know what it is on a Mac.

As I've never lost mine I'm afraid I can't tell you how to get it back but a search for something like "Windows Task Bar show" or "Ubuntu [or whatever version of Linux] show panel" should turn something helpful up.
