Firefox looks like it is crashing the tab due to videos.

Firefox has not been playing nice, and it is starting to worry me that if I continue to use it, my computer may suffer damage due to crashes.

It only seem to happen when I'm playing videos, such from YouTube and Twitch. It causes most of the time the tab to crash and require me to simply reload the page. There have been 2 times however that it has caused Windows OS to completely crash, requiring a restart. I have a picture of the error codes present, but one thing is shared between them. They all contain the reason EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ. This has pointed me to consider it to be the same issue. It may also be a issue with the new computer itself, or maybe something to do with the graphics card. I'll start with this first to see if it's something bigger or not.

I also hope that the trouble shooting data can also help, as I rather know how to fix this then be secretive with information that may help.

As as a final note, as of this moment, while being within safe mode/trouble shooting mode, no tabs have crashed yet. Hope this is a sign, but I'll keep it on just to make sure the videos aren't crashing anymore.

It happened again, this time in safe mode, Yay! I'll include the new crash in a image. I hope this issue can be fixed soon. I think I'm going to try to avoid videos on my PC for the next 24 hours next, with the exceptions of school related materials. This way I can fully verify if the culprit is in fact videos. Hope this helps!

PS: It may also have to due with the blocking of tracking in Firefox, or something with ads. I'm not too sure but it is definitely related to videos. Just have to 100% verify that first.

If you have submitted crash reports, please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-".

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.

  • click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

Alternatively you can open about:crashes via the location/address bar.

These are the last 5 crashes I have went through. Hope this is what you needed!

Third-party applications (such as antivirus software, archiving software, and other tools) may load modules into Firefox. Sometimes, these applications load harmful modules that cause Firefox crashes, reduced performance, or compatibility issues.

The crashes all have a different signature, so maybe do a memory test in case there is a faulty memory module.

Would that also include something such as themes? Or maybe the plugins? Their is one about encrypted data for videos, maybe that one? I don't use any extensions at all, so those are the only places that could cause problems.

The issue with that suggestion is that it happened while in safe mode. I do believe safe mode/troubleshooting mode removes all my extensions and themes and stuff...

Just checked, the plugins are still enabled in troubleshooting.

As for memory, I'll try Windows Memory Diagnostic, I'll put in what happened as a re edit of this post.

Thankfully my new computer does not seem to have any sort of memory issue, which is a relief but also confuses me on what the heck the issue could be.

No effect. It is most likely related to videos after all.

I noticed that it seems to be connected in some way to ads. Maybe a collision occurs as firefox attempts to block an ad as a popup, causing a error is the system. But that is just something I've noticed, may be a coincidence.

Another idea, as I've been looking. Could Hardware Acceleration cause these crashes?
