troubleshoot mode broken

more options

Firefox 102.0.1 (Arch and Slackware 15)

Normal mode working fine no major complaints. However, Troubleshoot Mode is broken.

Arch: Browser goes to restart in safe mode. The window opens but no pages will load (local or remote). It looks like it is going through the motion (circular animation) but nothing ever loads. I have to get out of Troubleshoot Mode for pages to start loading.

Slackware: Browser goes to restart in safe mode but nothing else happens. No window opens. KSysGuard shows Firefox running with memory usage blank. I have to end process from KSysGuard.

Using DNS over HTTPS ADGuard and Don’t enable HTTPS-Only Mode

Arch: I tried using a new profile, refreshing Firefox, uninstalling and re-installing Firefox but the issue still occurs.

In Firefox I do log in to my account and sync in both Slackware and Arch.

Any thoughts? I can't seem to figure out why Troubleshoot Mode is not working. It was working. I just noticed it was not working anymore yesterday.

Tried downgrading Firefox to 101.0.1 and starting with a new profile but Troubleshoot Mode still did not work.

I'm not seeing any error messages in dmesg and I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Tried switching between hardware/software acceleration. i.e. WebRender and WebRender (software).

Tried switching Firefox's Gtk+ backend. i.e. X11 and Wayland

Tried switching Firefox's OpenGL backend. i.e. GLX and EGL

Issue remains :-(

Also tried downloading the latest Firefox version from their website.

Launched the app like so:

MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 ./firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote

Used a new profile. And the issue still exists

It's just weird that Normal Mode works and Troubleshoot Mode doesn't. And it happens in both Firefox in Arch and Firefox in Slackware.

I'm thinking it must be something unique to my system setup. But wouldn't using a new profile in a fresh re-install of Firefox fix that?

Baffling. You could try a different user account.

I tried creating a new account. Same issue with Firefox. Troubleshoot Mode broken.

I don't know anything about ADGuard. Try disabling DNS over HTTPS.

Tried disabling all add-ons and turning off DoH. Same issue. Nothing loads in a freshly opened tab. When trying to go to a site all I get is the circle animation.

I was hoping some of that might help. Unfortunately, in my case, it did not.

Tried Disabling SmartBlock: extensions.webcompat.enable_shims=false

Tried completely disabling Enhanced Tracking Protection (and Total Cookie Protection) by: Selecting Custom under Enhanced Tracking Protection and un-checking everything.

Problem still exists.

This is so confusing.

You can try Firefox from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if it behaves differently.

I tried Firefox from the official Mozilla server (see comment 2) and still had the same problem.

I just don't understand. This PC has had the same setup(s) for years without any major issues. It's a tri-boot system with Windows 10, Arch Linux, and Slackware 15 (current).

Right not the only thing bugging me is this Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.

It's probably something stupid I did because the issue occurs in both Arch and Slackware.

No changes here other than staying on top of updates in both Arch/Slackware Linux. Was checking if the issue got resolved after each Firefox update.

Updated today to Firefox 106.0.1 and the issue is resolved.

Cheers
