The most recent update 100.0.1 has broken Firefox on windows 10. Only get blank white scree, not browsing, cant get to addons, etc. Something is broken.

Are you able to start normally in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?


Two other notes:

(1) VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL

Sometimes program installers and uninstallers mess with certain shared Microsoft files, particularly VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL, which Firefox can't live without. When the file is missing from the expected location, you may or may not receive a specific message, but Firefox will be largely inoperable from the address bar down.

To rule out that issue, you can (re)run Microsoft's installer for the VC Runtime files:

(A) Open https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022

(B) In the "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" section of the article, download the installer for your system:

  • 64-bit Windows: the "X64" download
  • 32-bit Windows: the "X86" download

(C) Run that installer and restart Windows.

Any improvement?

(2) Anti-Exploit Software

Some security software locks up Firefox's ability to spawn new processes. The last major one was Webroot conflicting with 64-bit Firefox 97. However, I don't know whether a new conflict has been detected yet for Firefox 100.0.1.

If the above does not help, Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
