mozilla slow to start
After recent latest update 99.0.1 Mozilla is slow to start. It seems to hang. I use Google as my homepage. Am Windows 7, 64 bit. I tried refresh and made Mozilla my home page. No difference. Chrome opens fine. Was really disappointed with refresh. It dropped a number of icons for shortcuts on my desktop - ????? which were a real pain to replace because making shortcuts with Mozilla is not possible without changing the User Account Control setting in Control Panel which I was unaware of but found after searching for 1/2 hour. I have no idea when this changed nor why it did on the Mozilla side because I have been using Windows 7 for 12 years. I am sending this using Chrome as my browser.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Fred........ Troubleshooting did nothing. I only have UBlock add-on which I have disabled but no difference. I also use Microsoft Secutity Essentials which I also disabled. No difference. My wife's computer has the same problem. Everything was fine until the last update.
Yes, performing a Refresh did nothing to help but it also dropped the icons for about 10 of my desktop shortcuts which took me an hour to fix. I cannot create a shortcut with Firefox any more if certain issues are existent in Windows. The method shown by dragging the padlock to the desktop does not work any more. I don't know when that changed. What I found on a forum was if my User Account Control in Control Panel is set to never ask me when I make changes to software, I cannot create new shortcuts on my desktop. I have to enable UAC to notify me before I could create new shortcuts/icons. You'd think that would be the other way around meaning turn it off. Rob
Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

Fred...... Why would I want to boot my computer in Safe Mode? I am aware of how to do that. My ROM and operating system has not changed, it's Firefox that changed. I do not use Windows 10, I previously said I am Windows 7. Chrome works fine. And what do you mean by 'try secure websites' ? How is this supposed to help me in a normal everyday environment? Is something glaring supposed to pop out (that causes my problems)? I also said I had disabled Microsoft Security Essentials which is like a virus program if you are not familiar with it.
Issues with dragging a link to the Desktop can happen if you run Firefox as administrator and made changes to the UAC settings. In this case Firefox runs with medium-integrity in Windows Explorer that doesn't allow dragging to the desktop.

After the problem occurred with Refresh I became aware of what you mention and thus got around it. It still puzzles me why Firefox deleted some of the icons but not all. And why UAC has to be turned back on, not off. I think most users have UAC turned off to avoid constant messages asking for permission to make changes which can drive you nuts. A very useless Windows feature in my opinion. Anyhow this is history and not part of/related to the current problem of slow performance.
This is ironic. I cannot sign in to my Firefox acct, using Firefox as my browser, in order to post this comment. I get a screen saying 500 ERROR which is recent. I try because the link is in my Firefox Bookmarks. I have now switched to Chrome and will not be using Firefox any longer. The slowness/delay has not changed and becomes more aggravating as days go by. I was doing nothing different re Windows or Firefox changes. All I did was accept the update notation and bingo, the program performance changed the same as it did on my wife's computer. To date I've tried everything suggested to no avail. I would rather not change but ?
I have reset Firefox to Default Status and nothing changes. This is not local to my computer. My wife has Windows 7 and is having the same issue with FF being slow on her computer.
Does no one have any ideas? I do not like using Chrome.
Out of the blue Firefox is working normally as of May 4. This was before the latest update yesterday and I do not have it set to update automatically so nothing happened that I am unaware of. The same with Windows although I'm using Win 7 which is not supported any longer. Any ideas?
