why must i keep clearing the cache to see a correct page
For the last several months pages on my websites don't always show correctly after i've updated them. I then need to go into the settings/privacy and delete all data to see the correct changes.
Try doing this; You may be in Private Browsing mode or told Firefox not to remember.
Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address box. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
Turn off Always Use Private Browsing Mode Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.
Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Hi Paul, Firefox can be pretty tenacious with cached files, especially CSS files.
For a one-time reload, try holding the Shift key to bypass the cache:
- Shift+click the Reload button
If you are actively developing a site, it might be simpler to open the developer tools panel (Ctrl+Shift+i or F12), switch to the Network tab, and check the box for Disable Cache. That should stay in effect for as long as the dev tools are open (you can use the ••• menu to float the window so it doesn't take up space in the tab).
For other readers, of course, you cannot be there to help them. One method sites use to manage updates is to put a version or date parameter on URLs. So for example, you might have
and you would use a query string such as
When the user hits the page with this new URL in it, Firefox won't use the previously cached version that doesn't have a matching URL.
Also make sure that your Kaspersky security software isn't causing issues.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support to see if that has effect.
I'll find out if any of these sort it after I've made a range of updates and see if they show correctly, thanks
Still same issue. I need to go to Security Settings and then clear the Cache to see the correct data. Cache is not always refreshing and showing the renewed page. Might have to try another browser to see if that helps.
You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
