SEC_ERROR_LIBRARY_FAILURE after syncing

Hi,

brief backstory: When I set up my new desktop, I copied over the nightly profile from my laptop. This however meant that Firefox Sync kept confusing my laptop and my desktop, only ever keeping the most recently synced state from either. This persisted even after I changed the devices names.

Searching on the internet, I found a suggestion to delete `services.sync.client.GUID` from about:config. I did that, and long story short, I cannot open any websites on my desktop anymore. It fails immediately with SEC_ERROR_LIBRARY_FAILURE.

This error persists even after

  • Refreshing Firefox
  • Reinstalling Firefox
  • Creating a new Firefox profile

whenever I log back into Sync. So I tried deleting and recreating my Firefox account to get rid of whatever corrupted data is presumably stuck in the sync data, but even then the error still occurs. It only disappears if I create a new profile and *never sign into sync*, but this is not a long term solution.

Does anyone have an idea how to identify and delete whatever setting is causing firefox to choke?
