Losing login status when closing Firefox Browser despite excepting web sites
Still trying to figure out what is wrong after refresh of Firefox.
I cannot get my handful of preferred websites to remain logged in when closing and reopening Firefox.
I have FF set to clear cookies and data on closing, but this handful of sites are listed as exceptions.
After reopen FF, the relevant cookies are not sticking. This used to work better.
I redownloaded FF and no improvement.
I'm thinking conflicting settings or....?
FF beta for Mac OS, 93.0b3.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.
- create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you
You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.
- using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
- using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
- Settings -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"

Figured out that another setting was trumping this one....clearing history trumps exception to save data. Done.

Not done.
I thought what I had set up prior to refresh was ALL data/logins/cookies except that from a handful of trusted sites was deleted, and I would stay logged in to those sites when I logged in again.
And I had FF set to clear ALL history EXCEPT those chosen sites, excepted under
Preferences > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data > Delete Cookies and site data when Firefox closes EXCEPTIONS
And FF was set to
Preferences > Privacy and Security > History > Clear history when FF closes > settings and ALL those boxes are checked.
But this is not how it is working.
I want active logins for all but my trusted sites (looking at you, support.mozilla.org!) to be cleared.
History trumps exceptions for saving cookies. That's the key I needed to adjust.
