1. Current environment: Windows 10 21H1, 19043.1202 2. I updated the Firefox from 91.0.2 to 92.0 by Mozilla Maintenance Service, but when I checked the Uninstall Panel, the former version 91.0.2 was found still there. Besides, though I can uninstall the older one, the latest version will crash due to its dependence on the previous one. 3. The former one should be completely overridden with no leftovers in Registry when it is updated. 4. The problem seems to have been recurring since version 90.0 . 5. Sincerely hope the problem can be fixed as soon as possible. 6. My thanks to the community for their contributions.

Are both versions listed under the uninstall? Uninstalling one could make problems with the other.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

From time to time we get a report that the previous version isn't removed from the registry, but the new version is added and you are left with an orphaned entry in the uninstall key in the registry. It is likely that both versions point to the same installation folder, so uninstalling the old version will actually remove the current newer version. You can use a registry cleaner or remove that entry yourself if you are comfortable with editing the registry.

All changes that you make in the registry editor are applied instantly, there is no UNDO possible. You can export key(s) in the registry editor before making changes. If you're not comfortable with editing the Windows registry then best is to skip editing registry keys.
