Hello,

since the recent update to version 90.0 I noticed that certain websites (youtube, facebook, spotify) won't load at all. I just get a blank screen. Additionally on instagram I can't see any images or videos.

At first I tried to open these websites in another browser (MS Edge) and there everything works just fine.

To solve my problem I already tried a lot of different approaches, but nothing has helped so far. Here is a overview of everything I tired so far: - deleted the cache and cookies (per Firefox as well as with CCleaner) - deactivated and later deinstalled all my add-ons - started Firefox in Troubleshooting-Mode - used the feature to clean Firefox - completely deinstalled and reinstalled Firefox - disabled and deleted my anti-virus software - temporarily stopped Windows Defender Firewall - used new profiles with the about:profiles menu - used different programs I already had installed (avira, Windows Defender, spybot S&D) to scan for viruses, trojans or malware. And I also used the ones Mozilla recommends on this site: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware -> nothing was found apart from a few tracking cookies

Now I am at my wit's end and don't know what else I could do get my Firefox to work properly again. I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can help me out to find a solution.

Best regards and thank you for your help Andreas

Another short update:

Today the update to version 91.0 dropped. Out of curiosity I set "network.dns.disableIPv6" back to "false" and tried to load websites which didn't work beforehand. Long story short, after the update I didn't have any problems. So whatever caused the problem for me with version 90.0 was fixed with version 91.0.

Best regards Andreas

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Thanks for the replies. I already tried troubleshooting mode as well as deleting cookies and cache. But that didn't help with my problem.

I hadn't checked my proxy settings so far and just tried the "No Proxy" option. Unfortunately that didn't help either.

During my search for a solution I came across the suggestion to go into about:config and change "network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true". I haven't tried it yet but will do so later. I'll give you an update if it worked or not.

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

You can also try to reset (power off/on) the router.

Thank you cor-el. I really appreciate your help.

First of all, by going to about:config and change the value of "network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true" I was able to fix my problem. With this change all affected websites work normally again. I hope this setting won't cause any other problems in the future.

Regarding your suggestions, cor-el, resetting the router didn't help. Checking the network monitor either showed the error displayed in the screenshot or some entries which said "CORS request did not succeed". Unfortunately I wasn't able to check Windows safe mode as I use a wifi connection to my router. Due to the postition of the router and my pc in my house, using a cable would require a lot of effort or a very long cable, which I currently don't have.

Best regards Andreas
