PASSWORDS AND LOGINS NOT SAVING FROM DAY TO DAY
Following the latest Firefox update, my computer no longer saves passwords or logins from day to day. I have checked all the settings all of which are as they should be. I have also cleared my cookies and browsing history but it makes no difference, when I log in the following day none have been saved. Please help - I am at my wits end.

Do you mean the password files are empty, or you are logged out of websites?
Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies.
If the cookie is removed, you are logged out.
You may be in Private Browsing mode or told Firefox not to remember.
Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.
Turn off Always Use Private Browsing Mode Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.
Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run
Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file.

Thank you Fred. I had done most of that but not the part from "Clear History when Firefox Closes" onwards. I have now amended those settings so will see what the various websites are like that I use when I log in tomorrow. At present, websites are retaining log-in and password details on the same day but not on the next day. Fingers crossed!
Profile data, including the 'logged in' cookies, can be removed or not recorded in several ways;
- 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
- 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar, type about:preferences#privacy<enter>)
- 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers
Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone. - 4) Mal-ware.
Thanks Fred but I have changed nothing. This has only happened since there was a Firefox update a few days ago.

Hello again Fred,
I just re-started my computer to see what would happen and it lost everything again. Not sure what to do now. I'm not that technically minded so I think I will have to call someone in.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
[X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" -> Settings - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-browsing-search-download-history-firefox
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
- clearing "Cookies" will remove all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you.
- create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you
You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.
- using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
- using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions"

Some Firefox updates have been known to change user settings. Check them.
I don't understand. What other settings should I check? I've looked at all the relevant ones
Fred - I just noticed something - I found my way to my "profile folder" and there is a whole series of logins.json - 1, 2, 3 etc that says "corrupt file" that started on 5th June. Should I delete these and see what happens?
Jill
No. I called for more help.
OK will do if I can find someone local!
