Create new profile or refresh?

more options

This happens far too often, in the course of 9 months or more frequently. What is going on Firefox? v88.0.1 Windows 10

Constant script errors that freeze whatever program I am in, regardless of the option I choose - the popup no longer gives me a WAIT or STOP IT. The box comes up that says DON'T ask me about this again.

I do not want to copy passwords, more than anything, should I create a new profile. I do not want to deal with replacing or losing the file. When I attempted to load two other profiles over the last two days, both times FF crashed. I gave up.

I am NOW in Safe Mode and without errors, and it's hard to know which app is causing the problem.

Is there a new addon that will back up Firefox these days?

Suggestions? Seriously, FF seems to be a whole lot more trouble these days than she is worth.

Thank you.

I got amazingly fast responses! I installed 21H1/a long download via website.

I checked my updates history and the new update is not listed. Nor is it in Check for updates.

Re no updates causing a problem - it has never happened before, but with MS there is always a first time.

BTW, in check updates > advanced options > pause updates - you can pause it for many days out. I have paused it for 2 weeks and extended it beyond that, on occasion. The updates I paused this time were on hold since mid-May or earlier. I have also used wushowhide - a wonderful little program.

(So far, all it well - no errors at all, but I haven't been on very long.)

I opened perfmon. What am I looking for or at? The file was created in 2019. I wonder how long it has been on my computer.

Thank you.

Yesterday was relatively trouble free. Just got a slew of scripts errors: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: https://html5.gamemonetize.com…eokd83fqz57l0ma/js/game.min.js:1629726973 Script: https://html5.gamemonetize.com…eokd83fqz57l0ma/js/game.min.js:1629726973 Script: https://html5.gamemonetize.com…eokd83fqz57l0ma/js/game.min.js:882399232 Script: https://html5.gamemonetize.com…eokd83fqz57l0ma/js/game.min.js:192062208 Script: https://html5.gamemonetize.com…eokd83fqz57l0ma/js/game.min.js:2262853376

Neither stopping nor continuing worked, so I closed the website.

Thank you.

ok, thanks for the update caio.

i visited the site, as shown in the pic, and i am not getting good results on me end.

there may be an issue with the integrity of that site or it is using a lot of java-scripting.

but the background for that site on my end, does have motion like the script is running.

I will have to study this issue a bit further.

but other than this, are you ok with your computer for everything else?

You are welcome.

That is the first time I ever got that many consecutive script errors, so I think it is the fact that it is running a lot of JavaScripts.

Other than this, it seems good. Fine! More downloads are pending. This would be the second since the update. Am I just catching up with the program, or do I need to check each description?

Thank you.

ok, its good to know you are a lot happier with your machine. we can work on the script errors later. but there is a new FireFox coming out this week. So maybe it will have some fixes that will work out for you.

In meantime, I would try to push windows updates to download and install ASAP to get it over with.

THe latest is update 21H1.

If you have either 20H0 or 21H1, click on the "more information" or "whats new" for the updates. They should be listed in the Update History.

And when you click on the "whats new" you will be taken to a place where your windows will be tweeked.

Do all the tweeks. Have fun. Once windows is 100% proficient, you can then do a little more tweeking with out help.

Keep us posted!  :-)

I just installed the latest release - 20H1- remember?

That's why it is working so well, isn't it?

I have never had FF updates resolve script errors. Only creating (or switching) profiles eliminated those terrible interruptions.

Going outside for a while. Enjoy your day.

Thank you.

If you keep getting script errors, try this;

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem,

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While you are in Troubleshoot(Safe) mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Fred,

I clear cookies and cache around twice a day. Except outlook.com, but I will do it.

Tried Safe Mode, but still had script errors. Just disabled graphic hardware accel. I thought it was already disabled.

If it is this simple, I would be shocked.

Thank you.

Tell it to forget about outlook.com?

  • Not sure if it solved my problem, yet.*

No script errors on the website where I had consecutive errors, though.

Thank you.

The instructions were for Firefox. Not Windows.

Sorry - I read Mac and forgot about everything else. Patience overload, perhaps.

It opens library. Continuously.

Fred,

Found what you wanted me to do, finally. Removed outlook.com.

There is no *undo* button to the right of the post. Only *quote* and *edit*.

Got another script error today, on a different website.

Thank you.

DBBEN,

I am still having a slew of script errors - in the same places (outlook, wunderground, and one or two others), in addition to brand new places where I never had script errors before.

When you have a chance, please tell me if you did further research. If so, did you find anything of value? I can begin capturing images again, if it helps.

Thank you.

Hi Ciaobella, Sorry I have not had a chance to get with you earlier. But i had hoped your browser was doing better for you. However, apparently it is not.

There is a little setting which may be of help for your browser.

Please type into the address bar and enter / go to:

about:config

Next accept warning you will receive upon entering the "configurator" (as i call it)

Next type (or copy/paste) the below into the search bar:

dom.max_script_run_time

If the number 10 appears as value on that line of code, double click it and change the 10 to 0, then press enter.

Nextly close the tab and restart your FF. Nexly take FF for a test run and see if the script errors stop popping up.

The above is just a little trick that may or may not work for you.

But let us know what you find out.  :-)

btw: if the above doesnt work, please provide me a link so tht i can try to reproduce your issue on my end.  :-)

Hey, dbben,

Not a problem. I forgot that we were working on this.

Do not know what you mean by *restart* (FF), but I am browsing away as usual. I still have places to go and things to do.

Funny, when you sent me to config, with a set to 0 mandate, I was surprised. All the instructions say to extend the time - and the only reason it was on 10 is because changing the setting upwards has never worked.

Hoping that if I have to send you a link, it is not to my propriety page, where you, naturally, won't get access. And btw, I just did another clean reinstall, as I got an XPCOM error. Fix recommended at Mozilla, of course.

Thank you.

So far, this week has been error free. Other issues are present, but no more script errors.

I think you did it, dbben! Almost 100% certain, anyway.

Thank you.
