I seem to be having issues with bookmarks randomly appearing on my toolbar. I am on a new installation and know it is not due to any malware. It's beginning to get annoying to have to consistently delete bookmarks that I did not want. My assumption right now is that I am somehow dragging a link onto the bookmarks toolbar as anything else that adds bookmarks is adding at the end, where these bookmarks are showing up in the middle, plus any other option to add bookmarks shows a popup box. Oddly enough it can sometimes be multiples of the same webpage I visted and I don't remember ever touching the address bar. Is there another way firefox can add bookmarks in the middle of the toolbar? Also is there a way I can "Lock" the toolbar, not allowing any more bookmarks to be added unless I unlock it? Recently made the switch from chrome and this is the only real issue I have.

A possible explanation could be if your are constantly logged into your FF account and the automated syncing is being executed.

Ensure your not logged in. Then monitor the situation.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

If any errors are reported, check this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional

The places.sqlite file contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like it is corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox. The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files.

Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

I have attempted what was mentioned here and will report back if I see that it works. The issue is not consistent so I may not know for awhile. I know its not due to sync as I hadn't even signed into the firefox account until I created this post (had to reset my pw and everything). Plus the bookmarks are made by pages I visit rather than things I've already bookmarked. Hopefully the sqlite fix works, we will see.

Thank you
