Within the past week I am suddenly getting this message (in a yellow bar at top): A website is slowing your browser. Stop it or wait? I click stop it but it doesn't stop it very quickly. I have tried all of the clearing cache/cookies, etc. solutions and nothing is working. I have always set my preferences to clear cookies/cache/history upon closing the browser. Don't know why this is happening or how to fix. Please help... Thank you

You can check for issues caused by your security software.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
