Glitch in recognizing my valid e-mail password

I am trying to set up SYNC and other services on a new download to Firefox 85.0.2, but the entry is returned as "invalid password." The password I entered (twice) is NOT invalid -- after the password was rejected by Firefox I used it successfully to log in to another device (on which I also use Firefox, but a Windows version). It also works to log in to my e-mail on Safari, but the password is rejected by Firefox as I try to use it as verification to set up SYNC and other settings. (BTW, I had to reload FF because when my MAC updated some aspect of the operating system last night, it completely erased the Firefox version that has been on this Macbook for 7+ years.) Is there a glitch in the interface of software for @att.net and the software for this current version of FF for Mac?
