update 85.0.1

more options

For all intents and purposes, there are no 'nonprofit' companies. Their is a large grey are between the two such that the entire spectrum is in that grey area. Firefox has become a Big Business Behemoth. The surest way to tell if you're dealing with a Big Business Behemoth is 'Customer Service'. Big Business Behemoths don't supply REAL customer support, you have to get whatever support you can from their 'Community', their end-users.

The most recent update of firefox was released without thoroughly ridding itself of glitches: the end-users will report the glitched that were missed.

Since update 85.0.1 was inflicted upon my computer without my permission. It not only hangs at somepoint while I'm using it, the little 'end peocess' window doesn't work, I can't minimize firefox and do something else until it wakes up from its nightmare, I can't access Task Manager, my only option is to wait. I'm not very good at the waiting game. Other applications have started hanging as well. I have no choice in the matter, I have to be patient until the problem resolves itself.

I am allowed the option to reset firefox and lose my bookmarks, my history and probably my saved logins. That's not an option , it's surrender.

Yup, support volunteer here. Keep in mind that Mozilla's mission isn't providing free browsers, it's: https://www.mozilla.org/mission/

Update Timing: To control when updates install, use the setting on the Options page.

Firefox Freezes: Sorry to hear about this problem. I don't think I've seen other similar reports, so it could be an issue in your profile, or a corrupted install.

About how long does it usually take for the problem to manifest? Is there a pattern to it, for example, same site, same type of media, etc.? I don't know whether you can get a sense of that from your browsing history.

Safe Mode

Have you tried running Firefox in its Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?
