I've noticed for about 2 weeks now, my google street view is not working like it used to. It some times will not respond and when it does respond it is very slow. I didn't used to have this problem, so maybe a new Firefox update or some other issue is causing then problem? How can I view my browser settings to see if some thing there is causing the problem? Hopefully, someone can help and cure the problem. Thanks,

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

FredMcD, I ran Firefox in safe mode, still have problem. Google maps in street mode is still messed up. The images seem OK but I can't navigate very well from street mode like I used to. The screen sort of freezes and it takes too long to move the street scene from one to another. I didn't used to have this problem until just recently. I know I have been loading what seem like many new Firefox updates. Are they a problem? What other issues in my browser can possibly be causing the issue? Thanks.

This is difficult for us to help you when we cannot replicate the issue. Can you provide steps to replicate the issue or a video showing the issues with Street View?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

FredMcD and jonz, thanks for the replies, I really don't have the expertise to show you a video of the problem. So, starting my computer in safe mode network support is different then Firefox safe mode, Fred? Let me know before I get to involved and screw something up. I do know when I tried my Google Earth option, a short cut on my desktop, that I do some times to view a larger screen view, I DON'T get the problem. So, it appears the problem is NOT Google from that observation? Thanks.

In most computers, there are several types of Safe Mode. The primary ones used most are;

  • Safe Mode: Only programs that came with the computer are started. No other programs will be started unless the user starts them.
  • Safe Mode with Networking: Same as above but the network drivers (internet) will also be running.

This is a way to test if one of the other programs on the computer is causing the issue.

FredMcD, thanks for the reply. Understand your comments. But, how do I run or start Safe Mode with Networking on my computer to see if that changes anything with Google Maps? I'm assuming I need to do something with my Windows system to do so? Can you please explain. Thank you, FredMcD.

FredMcD, tried using Google Maps in Windows safe mode with networking. There was no problem in doing so. So, went back to normal running mode and the problem with Google Maps is no longer a problem. I'm guessing Google had some kind of problem for about 2 weeks and left users in the dark. But, at least Google evidently resolved the problem? Hopefully it stays fixed!

Since early Dec 2020 I have been having the same problem as sciencemagic. When I tried Firefox in safe mode it did not help. I did open Windows 10 in safe mode and it worked okay but when I went back to normal, it froze up after moving one frame and not all of that frame was in focus. Most of the time when I open street-level I just get a mostly black screen. Sometimes if the Google maps page is left for a while before I use street-level, it will function okay but usually not. I have not had this problem when using Chrome so it seems to be relationship between my computer and Firefox. I have been using Firefox for years and would like to continue if I can get this problem resolved. Thank you for your help.

This could mean that one of the other programs on your system is the issue. As a test, disable your protection programs.

jdmozilla, unfortunately,the problem is back now again with Google street view. I thought the problem was fixed, and it did work OK for awhile, but now it is not working properly again, and the problem is as you state them to be. Interestingly, if you use the Google Earth option to view street view the problem disappears. So, it does appear Firefox has something to do with the problem with Google street view. Not sure how they can fix their problem though? But, nonetheless, it appears to be a browser issue, and not Google Maps. Would like to hear your opinion on what might be done within Firefox to resolve the problem. Is it something within the browser settings one uses to cause the problem? Being there are numerous variations on browser settings, and therefore a lot of experimentation, it would be helpful to hear from Firefox as to their suggestions of what to try in browser settings? What do you think jdmozilla?

jonzn4SUSE: Attached is a Google maps Street view download that came out blurry and then the page freezes up so the page won't close. Sometimes I don't even get a blurry view but rather just a black screen with the street address in the upper left-hand corner and the words Google maps displayed at the bottom. As an experiment, I copied a street view from Chrome that was working fine and pasted it to Firefox and it came up with parts of the picture being unfocused and the page froze.

FredMcD: I have tried disabling protection programs but that did not solve the problem. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am not having this problem with Chrome. It definitely seems to be something related specifically with Firefox and it only started in early December. I had used Google maps Street view frequently over the months prior to that with no problems.

Them it must be something else on your system. What programs are you running?

FredMcD: The only programs running in the foreground were Firefox, Malwarebytes Tray Application, and Task Manager when street-level failed to open this morning in Firefox. (See attached)

Could the Firefox GPU that is listed as active have anything to do with it? I most recently uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (84.0.2) this past Thursday (Jan 7).

jdmozilla, yes, my problems also started in early Dec. too, and like you, when I use the service without Firefox the problem is not there. Problem still there in Firefox safe mode. I have not tried another browser yet. But, as I mentioned, when I use Google Earth stand alone, the issue is NOT there. Hope this issue can be figured out? Thanks to all who are participating in trying to resolve the problem.
