Switching between Profiles when using Firefox Default and Firefox Developer with multiple Profiles

Hi Guys,

i have a question regarding the recommended use of multiple profiles on different browsers (Firefox Default & Firefox Developer).

Occasionally it happens to me, that i try to open a profile in the wrong Browser, e.g. open a Firefox Developer Profile in Firefox Default (or vice versa). Since, as far as i understand, the Browser do have different Versions, everytime this happens the Profile i try to open gets down-/upgraded and is broken(?). Afterwards i delete the Profile and just copy a Backup inside the Profiles Folder which is exhausting and sometimes the backup is way older than the actual Version, so i have to Backup all Bookmarks and Settings of the broken Profile manually and then import them again, when I use my older Backup.

My Installation directory should be default and therefore the same for both Browsers. Maybe I should just install them in seperate Locations? But wouldn't the Profile Folder in /AppData/ still be the same and i had the same Problem when opening a wrong profile by accident? How can I get rid off braking my profiles by accident? Right now i changed the order of the Profiles and seperated Default & Devleoper Profiles from eacht other with a "seperation profile" in between them named "______________________", so I don't accidentely open the wrong Profile in about:profiles, but there has to be a better solution, right? I also checked out the Profile Manager, but don't see the benefit in switching between Profiles. I probably could use shortcuts, make a shortcut for every Default Profile and a shortcut for every Developer Profile i have and open them by click, but i prefer to switch Profiles in about:config or at least that's the most comfortable way i know to do it.

Thanks for your Help
