Separate Start and Home Pages

One of the reasons I'm still using 56 is that the start page preference and home page preference are separate. I can set the browser to start with a blank page, but then if I wish to quickly go to my home page I can just click on the icon in the address bar. Don't know why this feature was downgraded in the new versions, but I'd like to update - so how can I make this be so in the new version of Firefox? I want to set the start page different from the home page like 56.

Ok, I got it. In about:config I can set the "browser.startup.page" to 0 as cor-el suggested above. Then, I must also change "browser.startup.homepage" to the desired URL. (I had changed new tabs = blank in the preferences beforehand.) One can't separate start and home pages in the preferences dialog, but the two actions in about:config will result in the desired behavior.

What you could do is to include a link in the Firefox shortcut to call whatever you want as a start page.

Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox_Current\firefox.exe" <add link here>

How did you previously do this ?

You can still set the startup page to a blank page via the browser.startup.page pref if you prefer this.

  • browser.startup.page
    [0:blank; 1:home page; 2:last visited page; 3:restore previous session]

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Thank-you both for taking the time to respond to my enquiry. The replies are not what I'm looking for so I've attached a picture to clarify. Note the separate fields for home and start pages. Startup page = X, Homepage = Y. This was stock in version 56. I want this (or to be able to do this) in the current version.

That startup setting is about the browser.startup.page pref I mentioned above.

Did you try that ?

The start page is one part of the equation, no trouble setting that to blank. I also want the homepage icon on the address bar, and I want that to be not blank. There does not appear to be a separate homepage preference option in the current version
