why don't some Mac trackpad controls work in Firefox?

more options

Mac trackpads (at least on my MBA running Sierra) have options for using the trackpad - like pinching or expanding with two fingers to zoom in or out, or smart zoom where you double-tap with two fingers to zoom in. These don't work in Firefox - but I don't see how (or why) a browser should prevent using trackpad gestures that are part of the OS. My FF is up to date.
