What is the best virus protection for Firefox on a windows 7 computer?

The question was! What is the best virus proctor for Firefox cause that's what I use to surf with. I add that my computer runs on Windows 7. I could go up to windows 10 but I hear it's not easy to use so I don't want to. I'm old as dirt and things are not easy for me to learn anymore so I will stick with windows 7 till the wheels fall off. Thanks Firefox.

I did mention using the basic Comodo Anti Virus application which still works fine for me. I'm 70 yo myself.

As James posted "Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020 ...."; that is what I would consider "the wheels falling off."

Hi!

This forum is for users who are having issues or have questions related to the Firefox internet browser. Your question is outside of the scope of this forum.

There are a variety of trusted antivirus and security programs (both free and paid) available online.

Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020 so not every software will still support Windows 7.

For Windows 7 there is or rather was the free Microsoft Security Essentials, however Microsoft no longer supports it and is no longer available as a download from Microsoft due to Windows 7 being EOL.

There is Microsoft Defender (was Windows Defender) but it only removes spyware on Windows 7.

There are a number of Antivirus clients out there where some may still support the EOL Windows 7. I do suggest to not allow or use any Extensions (the antivirus) tries to install into Firefox as they can cause issues or unneeded.

The question still somewhat applies here as the person was asking for suggestions on antivirus clients in relation to the Firefox web browser and not to using on Windows 7 in general.

I have been using the basic Comodo Anti Virus application on Win7 for like 5 years now, although I didn't allow if to install the latest version in Jan 2020 due to concerns as James mentioned an Win7 being EOL. But Comodo has been installing updates for "detection files" as they come out every few days, and I got a huge update yesterday when I was still using my PC at an unexpected time of the day, which forced me to quit surfing as the update was being installed. Comodo seems to 'know' when my PC isn't normally being used and does its updates then, more than likely due my PC running 24/7; last time I shut it off was 98 days ago, per Comodo.

Only shut it off this morning to perform my over due clean up of the CPU and fan for it, and clean the external filters that I added due to a dusty environment it lives in only 4" above a concrete floor that I don't clean often enough. My immediate past PC that was running on WinXP once ran 24/7 for a little over a year without being turned off.

OK guys. Thanks. I was looking for a cheaper proctor. Norton wants $100.00 bucks this year. You can get some that start cheaper but the add on will get you. And you can't really believe what the people will say to get you to buy what they are selling. I thought maybe Firefox would have a proctor they thought worked best. OK have a good day guys. Oh. James. you only got 10 more years to catch up to me. Hurry up.

Not suggesting to use Norton as there are options out there.

I have mainly used Linux for everyday things for the past oh sixteen years so I have not had a need for antivirus clients so much. I do have a nice system I acquired for almost nothing that I want to get up and running (has a junk PSU in it currently) to safely run the AMD Sapphire RX-470 8GB I have so I can just use it for Windows 10 (which I dislike) to play games I cannot run on Linux. Probably will use say Microsoft Defender on it.

Would have been better if Microsoft made the Windows 8.1 EOL as hardly anybody uses it compared to Windows 7 and 10 and Microsoft is still supporting 8.1 for extended support till January 10, 2023.
