Then, every time I opened FF, all the tabs that had been opened at the crash reopened (even the Yahoo email that has long since been deleted).
</p><p>I did the above and FF reopened in the one one tab I'd left open at closing.

<p>Then, I hit Home. The entire old session loaded.
</p><p>My Home setting was that session. I updated, and all is well.
</p><p>I may be the only one on the planet with this problem/answer. But, if not, here is the answer it took me a month to find.

</p><p>As for the larger question of why Firefox might use an older file, I imagine it's because there was a problem with a newer file -- such as being locked or corrupted -- but that's just a guess.
