I was running just "regular" Firefox on my Windows laptop. Yesterday my help desk had me upgrade to Firefox Extended Support Release to install a corporate email security certificate. I did not know when I installed this version of Firefox that it would overwrite my existing browser, and when it did, I lost all of my add-ins, extensions, bookmarks, etc. I'm hoping to be able to restore my old profile with all of the existing data I had. If I have to "downgrade" to regular Firefox I think that's fine since I just needed the ESR to install the security cert and that's complete now.

I looked on the about:profiles page and I have two other profiles, default and june19 (I presume the latter is from June 2019?), but I don't know how to determine which one is the preferred one. When I clicked Launch profile in new browser, it instructed me to create a new profile to protect my information and I hesitated to do that because I'm trying to restore an old profile, not create a new one. In case you can't tell, I'm not an advanced software user, so give instructions like you would to a 5-year-old or your grandma... lol. Thanks in advance!

Hi amy.enderson, Firefox 67 instituted "downgrade protection" on Firefox profiles. This was needed because files used in a newer version often are incompatible with older versions. I think this feature is why you can't even get into the older profiles from Firefox 68.

To see which profile was used most recently, you could try the Open Folder button on the "Root" directory row of the table for that profile. Try looking in the bookmarkbackups folder where the dates of automatic bookmark backups are coded into the file names for easy reference.

Once you determine which profile has the best data, the question would be what files are safe to copy over to your Firefox 68 profile; I honestly can't keep track of all the changes over the course of a year, but I think a bookmark backup -- steps to restore are in Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer -- would be safe. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Hello with the help of this solution you backup your old profile

Backing up your profile

To back up your profile, first close Firefox if it is open and then copy the profile folder to another location.

Locate your profile folder, as explained above.
Close Firefox (if open): Click the Firefox menu Fx57Menu and select Exit.
Go to one level above your profile's folder, i.e. to %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Right-click on your profile folder (e.g. xxxxxxxx.default), and select Copy.
Right-click the backup location (e.g. a USB-stick or a blank CD-RW disc), and select Paste.

Hiiii....

You simply need to follow the steps at Recovering important data from an old profile

Also, I note you are running a VERY old version of Firefox (43). You should update to Firefox 60.0.1 IMMEDIATELY, Update Firefox to the latest release
