I had to use Edge this afternoon to open my Brother printer/etc. I was in a hurry to scan something. Now it appears that MS Edge has taken some data and the Brother program out of Firefox. Help please! Thank you.

Hi Marcia, could you describe what is missing in a bit more detail?

If there was a comprehensive data loss -- no bookmarks, history, add-ons or custom settings, could you check the following:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-release or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any improvement?

hscher2000, thank you for your advice. It took away my Brother printer/scanner/etc - it's now empty when I open it with Firefox - and it flashed up a message that I didn't get to read, that it was moving some data from Firefox to Edge. I had to use Edge to scan something because Brother software just wasn't working on Firefox, so I guess I'm guilty as usual.

Sorry, I'm still not clear on what is empty. Do you mean a list of files you scanned before? Or when you want to print, the Brother printer is not listed?

When I want to print, the Brother printer is not there. The icon is still on Firefox but the printer isn't there when you click on that. I don't think Edge was talking about scanned files, but the message from them popped up so quickly, I couldn't read it all, and I'm a fast reader. Thank you so much for your help.

That's strange. When you call up Print in Firefox (for example, Ctrl+P), it shares the same print dialog as other applications and should list the same printers.

Or is the problem with a Brother-specific toolbar button, maybe added by an add-on?

Hi, I actually told you the wrong thing. It will let me print (I always use control + P), but it won't let me scan anything on Firefox. It's as if the Brother Creative Center, where you can scan things and work with them. If I open that on Firefox, there's nothing there. Can't even print that way. But I can print. This is very strange to me.

I have no Brother add-ons or toolbar buttons.

Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

How would you normally start a new scan from inside Firefox? It never occurred to me to try that.

I didn't realize what I was actually doing. I used tp have in-house tech support, but they grew up. What I mean is, when I'm using Fireefox, and I go to my programs to open Brother, there's nothing there. Ever since I opened it in Edge because all of a sudden it wouldn't work on Brother any more. When I start from Edge and go to the list to open Brother, it's there, and it works. I just don't want to switch back and forth between browsers to use my printer.

A tiny message screen popped up with something about transferring data from Firefox, but it was so fast I didn't get to read it all, and I'm a fast reader.

I truly appreciate all your help. Thanks.

I have a similar problem, I cannot save a scanned document using Brother printer I scan, Brother are recommending use Microsoft Edge to resolve the problem. I would prefer to use Firefox, but I don't want to keep swapping default browzers. Any suggestions>? When I try to save tghe scanned document to a file in my documents fikle, it gives a 'acess to folder denied'. I have not seen this problem before, so it might be linked to the recent Windows 10 update to their Op Sys.?
