Hello,

Are you referring to using a Virtual Private Network in general or specifically to browsing the internet via Firefox Private Network VPN? If you are looking to browse anonymously, you would either need to use Firefox's VPN, free services such as OpenVPN or subscription based VPN services such as Private Internet Access to encrypt your traffic. It won't completely make your IP invisible but other people will not be able to identify you if you encrypt your traffic via a VPN.

If you are in the US and want to protect your connection whilst on public wifi, there is a new Firefox plugin that helps protect you. Learn more about it here: https://fpn.firefox.com/browser

Hope this answers your question.

Hi phil, as a footnote to the first reply:

You always need an IP address on the internet. That is where the website sends the requested response, so it's essential to browsing. But you can appear to be browsing from a different IP address if you use a VPN service because instead of your request coming directly from your internet service provider (at home, office, coffee shop, etc.), it comes from an "exit node" operated by the VPN service, which will have a different IP address. That may be in your country or in another country. Does that make sense?
