AT one time I used this and when I pressed the middle mouse button, I would have the ability to scroll up and down by moving the mouse, This does not seem to work in FF 72.

Just for grins I tried a different mouse and it works as expected. It looks like the problem is with the mouse driver and not FF. I should have probably tried a different mouse sooner. Sorry about this. Vince

Hi,

It's still there. If you go into settings, there is a checkbox labeled "Use autoscrolling". Just check that box and you should be good to go!

In case of issues, try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

I have tried this using the Nightly version (version 74.0a1 (2020-02-02) (64-bit)) of Firefox and it still does not work. I press the scroll wheel and nothing shows up on the screen. In the past I have seen where I press the wheel and a small circle with 4 arrows shows up. If I then move the mouse the window scrolls in the same direction as I moved the mouse. I have done this in prior versions of FF but I don't remember when it stopped working.

Is there any way to tell if FF is recognizing the wheel press?

Hello,

Did you enable autoscrolling in settings as per my comment? I also have Firefox on Linux, and it appears to be disabled by default on this platform. When I enable it, autoscrolling works fine.

This should show some output for middle clicking in Firefox if you check the "modifiers" button: https://unixpapa.com/js/testkey.html

Autoscrolling is enabled. I clicked on the link. It registers keyboard clicks but not mouse clicks. I have tried this on FF72 and FF Nightly v74. Neither works.

The test offered by Matthew Thomas should register a middle mouse click. It did for me whether or not the "modifiers" tickbox was enabled.

Same site, about 2/3 down this page: https://unixpapa.com/js/mouse.html is a js test link Click here with various mouse buttons to test which should open a dialog correctly reporting which mouse button you used.

Can you type into the address bar about:config, and Enter. Type into the search box autoscroll Ensure both entries are true

Good work. Don't be sorry, it will likely help someone else!
