I have Firefox 70.0.1 and just recently it began to crash on opening and now will not display anything although as per the screenshot it shows 2 sessions open. The only way to close it is by Force quit. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, rebooted between installs, all to no effect. Firefox was working OK up until a couple a days OK (as far as I am aware) and not sure what (if any) other 'updates' may have caused or contributed to this. I have tried to start Firefox in safe mode but no success with that either - no Firefox menu appears when trying to open Firefox. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.1.

Thanks FredMcD, not sure how or why but it is now apparently working. My Apple Firewall was off, but turned it on then off, checked my Trend Virus but neither of these seemed to have a trusted program of Firefox - actually had none - so re-installed Firefox and away we went. 2 windows appeared and one seems to have been a post to facebook which maybe didn't close the page correctly or something. Anyway at present all seems back on track.

Let's start with, Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Then try, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
