I am switching to another operating system, which means I will reinstall the browser. Based on this, the question arises: are the settings synchronized out about:config? I set up my browser for a very long time, I would not want to lose my work. If the data does not sync, where can I copy the browser settings?

Hi Faurazeko.

Some preferences are synced, but not all of them. See Sync custom preferences.

OK got it. Then where can I copy all the settings of my browser?

Why don't you just copy the whole Profile instead only settings?

I mean, where is the file with the browser settings?

Not sure if all settings are copied. You yourself said that not all settings can be synchronized.

First, open the about:config page. Accept the warning twhen you’re prompted. Note down the preference that you want to sync i.e. right-click it and select Copy name from the context menu. Next, right click again and select New>Boolean. n the preference name field, enter the following;

services.sync.prefs.setting

Replace ‘setting’ with the name of the preference you copied earlier. For example, if you want to sync the accessibility.blockautorefresh preference, you should name the new boolean preference as follows;

services.sync.prefs.accessibility.blockautorefresh

In the value field, set the value to True. That’s all you need to do. Once you add this preference, the preference with the corresponding name will sync across all instances of Firefox desktop. If there’s a preference that is available on Firefox Android, and you have sync enabled on it, it will sync to your phone as well.

If you copy a whole profile from Windows to another OS like Linux or Mac then you should be cautious because some files aren't compatible (absolute paths). Best is to copy only important data files and redo settings and reinstall extensions to make sure everything is initialized properly.

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover or transfer specific data.

  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
