I go to my bookmarks folder and drop down to my custom bookmarks sub-folder; I am able to sort my bookmarks within this folder from A-Z. Once I leave my bookmarks folder and go back up to the main webpage drop-down menu for bookmarks and navigate to my sub-folder, all of the bookmarks have reverted back to an unsorted list. While trying to sort A-Z, there isn't any sort of "save changes/update" button, so why can't I get the sort order to take permanently?

In this list you only see the pages you last bookmarked, so older bookmarks do not show in this list.

If you haven't done this yet then you can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar

How do you want to search for bookmarks?

One method is to use the address bar. Type a few letters of the bookmarked site and watch for it to come up as a match in the drop-down -- bookmarks are designated with a star icon at the left.

Another method is to use the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b) which has its own search box.

It doesn't list the contents of the Bookmark Menu itself, it shows a list of the most recently added bookmarks in reverse chronological order. It is hard coded to "Recently Bookmarked." If your question really is "why", I don't know why.

However, the optional bookmarks menu button TyDraniu mentioned -- -- is much more useful than the Library button in my view (I moved the Library button to the "Overflow" list).
