Separate Profiles can be used which provides for separate "users", with separate user data files and separate add-ons; as good as separate "installations".

It's not as easy as you describe. Every Firefox installation will used the same Profile Manager; which can cause unexpected results when trying to use Firefox in that manner. That type of scheme is best suited to a user who wants different version numbers of Firefox installed, and since Firefox 67 the new Profile Manager can handle the multiple different "installs" without the "gymnastics" that were required with Firefox 66 and older versions.

The multiple profiles/installations are to avoid compatibility issues. For example: some websites (e.g.: youtube.com) are not fully compatible with hardware acceleration, but it can't be disabled on a per-domain basis.

Controlled via hardware preferences in the Profile, not the Firefox program files.

Can multiple user profiles be open concurrently?

Yes, by using the -no-remote command line variable. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options

Or by going thru the new Profile Manager using about:profiles .

I've created a second user profile. But how to configure it?

1.Download the versions of Firefox you wish to install – >removed unofficial third-party link< 2.If you already have a version of Firefox – go to step 4 3.Install a version of Firefox in the normal way 4.Close any Firefox windows 5.Click Start > Run. Type firefox.exe -p (Windows 7 users – Open a command window and run the command from there) 6.Create as many profiles as you have Firefox versions (in my case Profile 1 and Profile 2)
