How do I remove the "recently Bookmarked" list. I cannot use "about:config" because there is no heading to remove the list.

The recently bookmark list is extremely annoying. I look in my "bookmarks" to find what I need. I do not want to have to browse through thirty bookmarked pages to find what I need. The list is garbage I don't want to see.

A "smart folder " is not a real folder, but a program within the Bookmarks Manager.

If you want, you can change the icon/function of the toolbar by;

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars {web link}

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the toolbar.
    Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and
    select Customize.

In the new window, look for the icon. When you find it, hold down the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be. You can move any of the icons you want from here, but; some icons are locked in place.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom middle.

Many just move that to the bottom of the manager.

Where do you see this "Recently Bookmarked" list? You can remove this smart folder that shows the result of a query via the right-click context menu like you would remove a bookmark or a bookmarks folder. Note that you need to remove the folder and not its content as that would remove the actual bookmarks.

Do you mean the so called smart folder that was present in older Firefox versions on the Bookmarks Toolbar or do you mean the Recent lists you see in the Library toolbar button and in the Library item in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list ?

The "recently bookmarked" list appears in the upper right of the tool bar. The icon looks like a line of books on a shelf. When you click on that one of the choices is "bookmarks" choosing that gives you options of "bookmark this page" etc. Below these choices is a long list marked "recently Bookmarked" At the very bottom is what I really want "SHOW ALL BOOK MARKS". I do not need to see a non alphabetized list of stuff I have bookmarked at some point.

Perhaps I am just an idiot, but I have no idea what a "smart folder " is, or for that matter where to find it. I do know that deleting a book mark on the "recent" list deletes it from the real list. I have tried right clicking inside the "recent list and that does not help. As far as I know I have the latest version of Firefox. This is where the problem came from. I installed Firefox and imported my book marks from Chrome. They all appear in "RECENTLY BOOKMARKED"

Thank you very much. The instructions got me close enough to dump the "books" icon in the overflow menu. I will now use the sidebar bookmark list.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.

Note that you hide some of these 'recent' type lists with code in userChrome.css.
