error importing outlook 2003 settings

more options

Trying to migrate from Outlook 2003 (not Outlook Express) on Windows 10 to current Thunderbird (60.something).

All goes fine except it gets a nondescriptive error when trying to in stall the settings. I'm assuming settings refers to the accounts Thunderbird is to check. Would rather not have to recreate all the accounts it checks manually as my settings are pretty complicated in Outlook.

What/where/how do I diagnose and/or get the settings imported?

Thanks.

perhaps use a version of Thunderbird that is closer to the ancient outlook2003.

There have been changes in the importer in the past couple of years. SO perhaps try something like V17 and see if it does better.

I have linked to an en us version here http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/17.0.9esr/win32/en-US/

Good thought, tried it, still no luck with settings...  :(

Well that is something of a bummer.

ok lets try and get an error report of some sort.

open the error console (ctrl+Shift+K) clear it and start your import. Do you get a more specific error message?

Just remember that exchange mail settings are not imported, only IMAP pop and SMTP.

Hmmm, I uninstalled the old version and installed current and imported the email. Apparently no more error console in this version...  :( Just a "Browser Console".

Opened that and tried the import and nothing appeared in the console.

Again, thanks for the help, sure wish the error was more explanatory. And these are all POP accounts, no exchange nor IMAP.

We'll just have to re-enter the accounts (not that many) by hand, as well as the filters to move appropriate folders to get this just done.

Outlook emails can be exported in .eml format. Create a folder on desktop and put .eml files in it.

In Thunderbird ImportExportTools is an addon extension which can import .eml emails into a selected folder in a pop account.

how to install addon:

Create folder in pop mail account right click on folder > ImportExportTools > Import all messages from a directory > just from directory select the folder on desktop click on 'Select Folder' button to import.

Mail imported fine so no help, thanks anyway. It's the settings (accounts, email address/passwords/pop/smtp settings) that won't import.

My error, I had no Thunderbird to look up. Ctrl+ Shift + J is what it should have been.

When you did the import, were you choosing only "settings" Most problem occur with a selection of everything.?

I tried several things, including everything and each item separately. Settings is the one that got the error. But we've manually set up the accounts now so this is moot, thanks for trying to help.
