I just switched from Chrome to Firefox a few days ago. Today when I restarted my laptop and opened Firefox, my browsing profiles, preferences, extensions, about:config settings, etc have been deleted. I'd like to use Firefox as my primary browser, but I have no idea how this happened and no way of knowing that it won't happen again. Is there a way to restore all this so I don't have to waste my time setting it up only to (who knows!) have it deleted by surprise again?

被選擇的解決方法

A lot of users have reported similar issues recently. It seems that Firefox sometimes creates a new blank profile after an update and sets that as the default. It can usually be restored simply by going to the profiles screen and setting your original profile back to the default.

See this document for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Wesley! I'm new(ish) to Firefox, so wouldn't have known where to look for other profiles. Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem (there was one other profile, but it seemed to be a copy of the default one?).

I've gone ahead and set up Firefox again, since my settings/etc were fresh in my memory from doing it last week (so problem not exactly solved, but close enough), but what a frustrating situation!

Well, sorry you weren't able to recover your settings. Guess it's a good thing that you are a new Firefox user then.

Hope you enjoy Firefox!

So I have a similar problem to the above, although it only happens when I restart my MacBook. When my MacBook is restarted, Firefox closes, along with any other open programs. Once my MacBook comes back on, Firefox is no longer there - I have to click on the install file and it downloads like a new program again. Of course, that means I lose all of extensions and data. Does anybody know why it would be doing this and how to fix it? Thank you.

Make sure Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox Disk Image file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.
