I downloaded FF again because my Ff history was disappearing & maybe that interfered with my FF. I can only get my FF history & bookmarks back by logging in with the link sent with am email telling me my user name but not instantly. I changed my password which may or may not be relevant. I have the latest Kaspersky & a 2 year old Dell XPS

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What are the exact error message(s) ?

I'm a little clearer on how to describe this (& thank you very much for asking). I was having trouble initially trying to access my bookmarks etc. I downloaded FF again & found instead of correcting the problem, I had a new FF account absent all history with the new icon on my screen, when clicked on),

In the process of trying to sign in again I was sent an email with my username & a link to click on to logon. Only when I click on this link in this email can I get my history back. At the top it is called tab though. I cannot set this as my home page as such (that I understand how to do) & I do not know how to get that icon on my screen to click on to get my FF with history & bookmarks as previously - as my one & only homepage that can be clicked as before with an icon on the screen. All of which I would like to do but do not know how.

When I try & sign in now it tells me my username is taken & will not let me type any password (no letters appear) as if frozen out. I'd be happy to share either or both with you if that resolves this.

If I had to guess, it would be that deleting the first FF account w/o losing the second is somehow required but really i'm just not sure what has occurred on deeper levels & what must be done to return to my original FF.

Much thanks, John Penturn

Perhaps you were trying to create a new account ? ! Make sure you are 'logging in.'

Open Firefox. Is all the data there? If so, let's create a backup. If the data is not there, do whatever to get it back.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

If the sync account is giving you trouble, the best thing to do it to delete the original. Then create a new one.

Do this Only when you have your data back.

By sync account do you mean the one I have on my desktop? i have no other devices & use windows 10 with Kaspersky & outlook 2016 on my Dell. I have my data as I've described. Do I delete the account that I click on the icon that doesn't have my old data. Will my new then data remain from my other one? I would pay someone to take over my computer & help me out but its not clear who that would be. My Dell warranty had a guy who was unfamiliar with FF.

Signing in is a little mixed up right now. I sign in through the original email sent me & bookmarked that page (& have my data that way). It's a little klugey but but the best workaround I can figure out, I'm sure it can be done better somehow. Thanks.

Ifthere was a way to contact Mozilla (report a bug?) that'd be great.

Sync is used to share data between several other systems and profiles. If you only have/use just one, you do not need sync. Note: Sync is not meant as a backup.

Removing a sync account will only remove the data from the Mozilla servers. The data on the computers is not affected.

You are saying that one member of the sync does have all of the data? In that case, use that device to create the new sync.

Give the sync time to send the data. After a while, then have the other profiles join the new sync.

A bug report can be filed, but we like to see if we can solve the problem first.
