Deep trouble here, after recent FF update, tabs went all red, and worst all bookmarks vanished, XY querty zeyboard wrong way round, massive amounts of crash errors. Adobe flash defunct, Add on's Adblock doesn't work,reloaded FF so many times, refreshed. done everything. The recover bookmarks is about as confusing as it could be.

What have you lot done to ruin and where to start in the simplest way to start rectification without having to take it to an expert.

I accidentally downloaded the 32 bit FF version as I saw (checked later) that it was the 32 bitAdobe Flash..not the FF. That threw me out. It seems many 64bit systems accept 32 bit programs. However as for the bookmarks I'm getting an empty box. The events after the massive crash primed me to using the 'refresh firefox' and this may have cleared out any corrupt or damaged bookmark signatures. Not sure on this. Hence I view this bookmarks recovery as a 'pandoras box' of not really knowing what corrupt lies in it. The recent bookmarks are easily visible, and I may just have to accept not to disturb. Fortunately I have a good memory and managed to recover most of the 300 bookmarks.

Thanks for assist,....these situations are very 'trying'.

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

I see you are using v65. A new version just came out, fixing many issues.

Thanks for communicating....this is hell trying to use ...I make no apols for being difficult, it is extremely annoying let even alone trying to find the right place to place problems. I don't find it easy at all.

I'm ahead of you... V66.0.1 is already installed. To my amazement amongst all the issues that are being flagged up, FF tries repeatedly non stop checking for updates, No sooner it mentions 'up to date', it starts checking again a non stop cyclic process. FF settings are that I install the updates. It has bypassed this. Time wise I feel wasting here, I have to take all this to experts as the list of issues suggests this update has thrown the operation into choas seriously impeding the operation of the notebook.:-. 1) Bookmark Tabs 'vanished'. No response in recovering. 2) As mentioned, the FF update issue. 3) YX on kezboard wrong (language settings are correct). 4) Adblock and other 'containers not responding anymore. 5) FF crashes when Adobe flash is activated. 6) Blinks ( above) several times then Blue Screen of death arrives, goes into lockdown. Only way to restart is press into that very small hole on the underside to reset.

There are compound issues here. The error reports presumably have been automatically sent, but where to start is beyond me as so many functions are interlinked on one another.

If you wish to not deal into this, I fully understand. This is bad for FF, my history with it over the years has been dogged by near permanence of awkward issues that have taken alot of my time up. This latest one certainly isn't my fault.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

The X86 program files are full of folders and files is looking for a needle in a haystack., great danger of a false delete. Also all the permissions need deactivating.

I would reload afresh version of FF but in doing so I presume it would delete any valuable bookmark data. So I am stuck and on to something here more than I can debug.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Apols for break in post... it crashed again. However I've managed to download a fresh firefox 32 and the installer now works, i.e Adblock is running, but I begin to wonder if the updater downloaded the 64bit version ?

The bookmarks I've had no luck yet. I will need every bit of cohesion on this. Also I am not 100% certain that the relevant files/folders were moved as per your previous post. The Keyboard is now correct so that is a sign of hope.

Bookmarks...Can't recover/find them them....I believe these are designated with term sqite ? They aren't in the user Moz Prog X86 or the other. The help portal is unhelpful. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder in the user profile.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox

jscher2000 has a tool on his website to extract out your bookmarks and save them to an HTML-format bookmark export file. If you want to try it, here is the page:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

To open the bookmarkbackups folder in Finder, use the "Open in Finder" button in the first table on the Troubleshooting Information page, and double-click into bookmarkbackups where you should see several dated files. From there you can drag and drop onto the conversion tool.

To import the HTML file, see the steps in this article: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.
