How can I prevent Firefox disabling Webgl2 during development of unstable code?

Periodically Firefox disables my WebGL2 as a side effect of crashes I caused with unstable code. When Firefox goes into this mode it won't return a webgl2 context and the http://webglreport.com/?v=2 page suggests

"This browser supports WebGL 2, but it is disabled or unavailable.

Sometimes this is the result of older video drivers being rejected by the browser. Try updating your video drivers if possible."

However there are no driver issues, it was triggered by unstable development code. I've tried setting and resetting many of the about:config webgl options to no avail. Uninstalling and reinstalling also had no effect.
