updated firfox now cannot access profile

Hi, I was prompted to refresh/update Firefox as it 'was starting slowly'. Having done so it will now not start because it 'cannot access profile'. I read the help articles and I checked that the profile is in the right place, marked as default, and it is. But there is also another profile, created on the day of the refresh, also market default. If I use this profile (through Profile Manager) Firefox starts but I have lost all my bookmarks, passwords, etc. When, through Profile Manager, I click on the old profile as default then Firefox will not start and tells me it cannot access my profile.

 I'm at a loss and going round in circles!  Can anybody help me get my old bookmarks, etc back?


I'm using Windows 10, by the way.
