Does Firefox use the OpenVPN Daemon? I am getting excessive downloads in the 100's megabytes range.

I recently began monitoring my internet traffic and found that two programs were downloading hundreds of megabytes of data, often when I was not actively doing anything on the internet. Those programs were OpenVPN Daemon and Firefox. This behavior is burning my already expensive bandwidth and I have no clue as to what is being downloaded, why, or where it is going.

Is there a way to stop this behavior?

The only reason Firefox would be using internet data is from the websites that you have open in Firefox, or if you are downloading something. For example, if you have youtube open in a tab and it continues to automatically play, then Firefox will use a lot of data.

Firefox doesn't use OpenVPN, unless you've configured Firefox to use said VPN.

The issue is downloading of excessive data that is from unknown origin, unknown content and goes to an unknown location. While uploaded information may be a problem it is minor compared to the downloading issue right now.

I don't see how OpenVPN Daemon is a firefox issue. Did you contact the VPN provider your using about the issue.

Please read what I wrote. I am getting massive amounts of unsolicited downloads from BOTH OpenVPN Daemon AND Firefox. I know that one program uses OpenVPN Daemon and I am in contact with them, but WHY does Firefox do the same thing?

By massive amounts of data I am talking 1 gbyte in an eight hour period without any activity on my part except to use Firefox to contact CBSNEWS, Washington Post, and New York TImes WITHOUT downloading anything other than their web pages so I could read them.
