Upon startup of my Firefox browser I found it to be reset to the basic/original version. All of the following was removed: History, Browser settings, Saved Passwords, etc. I restarted my computer and browser but nothing changed Any idea what to do? I can deal with the loss of the history and settings, but not the passwords Thanks

Hi SoulEaterKitty, I'm sorry to hear about this problem.

If you haven't already, could you shut down Windows and restart it so that any locked files are freed up? That sometimes helps with this problem.

Next, do you recall whether Firefox was running its Refresh feature right before this problem happened? In that case hopefully you have a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data that contains your last Firefox profile folder. If you find that, please let us know and we can assist with regaining use of those files.

If you don't have that, then we can suggest other places to look for your data.

Unfortunately, I was in Too much of a hurry and quite upset with this whole situation. I proceeded to make matters worse by Resetting the computer ( I meant to restore, but messed that up) now I am forced to put all programs back on and hope that syncing with my desktop I can salvage some of the Lost items.

Hi SoulEaterKitty, did the Windows Reset create a folder called

C:\Windows.old

If so, you probably can get a lot of old program data out of there, for Firefox and other things.

For Firefox, you'll need to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders. See:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then you can explore up the path:

  • C:\Windows.old\Users\username\Desktop\Old Firefox Data
  • C:\Windows.old\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Hopefully you'll find data in one or both of those locations and we can resume the recovery from there.

Note, that folder gets deleted automatically after 28 days, so make time to go through it soon (or make a secure copy somewhere).
