I know this might not be a Firefox issue but rather a Flash issue, but maybe it's a know problem or somebody recognises something which can lead to a solution.

I have Firefox 62.0.3 64 bits on Windows 10 Pro 64-bits (v1803). With nPapi plugin version 29 everything worked fine. It looks like after installing the newest nPapi flash plugin (v31) thing got messy. However the cause could also be something else.

When starting Windows in safe mode. Everything works fine, flash and firefox. In safe mode I can also uninstall and install the Flash plugin.

I normal mode, the Flash plugin gives problems, loads very very slow and white screens appear, nothing works, no flash games and also not the flash test page on the Adobe site. Also, it's not possible to either uninstall or install the Flash player plugin. It does not matter if I use the seperate Flash uninstaller (as administrator) or the normal uninstall. And when installing it goed up to 90%, keeps there several minutes and then says that the installation failed. Seen no errors in the install log of Flash and as said, in windows safe mode 0 issues.

I disabled all security (Emsisoft Anto Malware and Windows Defender are running) in normal mode. Only things still running (in the taskbar) are MSI Live update and something else. Realtek Audio config, and several things of Acronis True Image, however active protection is not active. I also already scanned with ADWCleaner and Malware Bytes additionally but no malware was found. And as a last resort I uninstalled flash plugin (in safe mode) then back to normal, refreshed Firefox to factory settings, went back to windows safe mode to install flash again (worked fine, Adobe site and games too), restarted to normal mode and problem occurs again. Since Firefox works without problems when not using flash, I also installed my other addons again (ublock, empty cache and nimbus screenshot).

I also have IE, Edge and Chrome present on my system, they do not have this issue. But they don't use the npapi plugin so that doesn't wonder me a lot.

Does anybody know what could cause this behaviour.

I already did because the error page also pointed to it.

The problem is fixed, but don't ask me what it whas. After my last reply, I started the pc in diagnostics mode via msconfig, without the "load system services" checked. All went fine. So I did the same, now with system services checked and startup parts unchecked. All went fine again. With "all" I mean installation and deinstallation of flash and a good working in Firefox.

So I got confused. Enabled normal start again, and now everything is working flawlessly, I can install and uninstall again and flash is working perfectly too.

In short I've seen something about the Windows Firewall which gave a strange notice, which it's not giving again, so maybe that had something to do with it. I don't know. But it's fixed.

Thank you anyway for your effort and quick answers!

download flash uninstaller:

you must close all firefox procceses in task manager before running the uninstaller.

after you done restart your system and run firefox and install flash player from here:

now make sure all firefox processes are closed from task manager.

run flash installer.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin.

Thank you for your answers. However, there are 0 Firefox processes running in the task manager. The uninstaller won't work either, tried that already. As stated they only work in Windows Safe mode.

Cor-el: Disabling hardware acceleration is nice when flash is installed, but it does not install or uninstall. I did try to disable hardware acceleration, but that did not give any solution unfortunately. But thank you also for the answer.

scan with hitman pro:

remove ublock origin not just disabling it & if you have acrobat reader uninstall it.

make sure you install flash plugin for 64bit not 32bit.

and see this page:

FYI I have a lot of ICT knowledge, which might makes it easier to communicate with each other.

I installed the 64 bit flash, at least that's what we're talking about. Adobe detects this itself but I always check.

As I wrote before I had the same issue with a refreshed Firefox, so without uBlock. Removing it again will not help as this is tried before. I did however not uninstall acrobat reader before, so I will also give that a try. However, in windows safe mode (with network support) there are no issues and in that case uBlock and Acrobat are present momentarily too. So I doubt very much if removing that would have any effect. But I'm prepared to try.

I already scanned with ADWCleaner and Malware Bytes with both did not find anything. However, I will gladly scan with Hitman pro too to see if it maybe can find anything.

As for your second link, reinstalling my system software only for a flash issue is for sure not an option. Also because my system is working 100% and only the combination Windows/Flash/Firefox is giving issues at this moment. I can easily change to Chrome to prevent the issue, but I like Firefox a lot more. Next to that, re-installing system software does not guarantee that the issue will not return.

I will answer back after running Hitman pro and testing without uBlock and Acrobat Reader. Thank you!

Hitman Pro found nothing.

I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat and removed uBlock as suggeted. But same thing happens when the flash installation starts (sometimes the process is only visible in task manager without any installation screen). The installation goes until 90%, then it stays there for several minutes and ends with the notice that the installation failed and an Adobe web page is started. The install process keeps present in the process manager and I have to disable it manually.

FYI. Earlier today I also alreay did a "sfc /scannow" and the "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" but no issues found either.
