Before you send me any explanations on how to move the bookmarks icon or customize menu, etc, I can see my (empty) bookmarks list but that is the problem. It's empty. Yes I can restore bookmarks from a backup file and after some time I can make it functional until I close Firefox. When I reopen the application, it's back to the empty bookmarks folder and missing toolbar. Clearly, I am not alone in this problem. Is firefox doing anything about it? I can not be expected to restore my bookmarks every time I open the app. I guess every once in a while, a trusted app drops the ball and you find a new one. Back to Safari? Google wants my soul. OnyX?

BTW: running a new imac 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, with up to date system, in safe mode and not safe mode thanks

HI if you are having issues with your bookmarks you may want to see if this is the issue Bookmark Manager and Viewer .

As to why the disappear have no idea and yes you are the only one having the issue in the way described.

If Firefox has made a folder on the Desktop called OldFirefoxProfile the would be in there due to corruption.

You have installed a Extension called Bookmark Manager and viewer See if this is the problem by going to the 3Bar Menu --> add-ons You installed it from here : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmarks-manager-and-viewer/ Please note that the Developer Has a Support Link on their page.

My Biz Card and Title Appear with my Avatar next to each post I make.

This is Firefox Volunteer Support done by users like you.

please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.

then

TEST....... If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested ..... Or it is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:

If is your Profile :

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

See also:

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Pkshadow: I do appreciate your time on this matter. the frustration you are fielding is with firefox, not you. sorry. Like many users with bookmark problems: everything was fine until the update. can you just send me a link to download v 56. that would be fine with me and very helpful as I can't find one.

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/56.0.2/ choose 64 or 32 which ever is your flavour. Uninstall the Mozilla Maintenance Service or do not install it. Not sure if it will force update with out that or not.
