I'd like to use one browser window for specific tasks, and I don't want external links to be opened there. Can I disable loading external links in that window, even if it was the last active Firefox window?

What kinda links are those?

The kinds that you click on outside of Firefox that your operating system funnels to Firefox. See e.g. the option browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external in about:config.

That option gets close to what I want. On https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1109391 , a user lists the possibilities for that option. None of them can be used to force Firefox to use a specific window, however.

I believe I would need a per-window setting, anyway. Or some way to mark a window as "special", like Chrome's `--app` option.

Hi

I might be able to help with this.

Just to clarify, you want to click on an external link and it opens a new instance of Firefox, but not to open a tab in the existing open Firefox instance?

I think my question is sort of pointless. All I really want is a application version of <chat app used at work>. If Firefox had a "--app" option like Chrome, that might do what I want.

I suggest this question merely be closed.

Hi Chreekat

No problem, I will lock this thread but if you have another support question with Firefox, please feel free to ask a new question and we will do our best to help.
