Adobe Flash No Longer Identifies Default Audio Setting

I started having a problem with Adobe Flash video, where, despite my default audio device being set to "Headphone," the sound would play out of my speakers, often at disturbingly high volume. The source URL of the video did not matter.

I discovered that I had to right-click on the video, go to "Settings/Audio Output" in Flash, and set the sound device to "Headphone." Now, of course, it will not play if my headphones are disconnected and I have to go into "Settings" and change it to "Speakers."

Does anyone know how to make this Flash plug-in recognize the system default audio output?
