Since the update to Firefox 55 my extensions are all weird, some don't work, and tabs are not restored
Since the update to FF 55 my tab sessions do not restore, and my Gmail Notifier Restartless 0.7.4 extention doesn't show up on my toolbar, nor can I find it anywhere to add it. Are there newer versions of extensions? How do I update and/or fix this? I see Legacy next to all of my extensions. What does this mean? Somewhere someone should have posted explanations of all this - if they did I can't find them. I'm a long term FF user but this has me stumped.

There are two kinds of extensions. Old XUL based extensions are marked as 'Legacy' and these legacy extensions will be phased out in 55 and 56 and disabled in Firefox 57+. The new extensions are named WebExtensions and are marked as 57+ compatible on the Add-ons website.

You can search the Add-ons website to see if you can find a replacement that is 57+ compatible.

Ok, thank you, found the new version in the Add On section, but it won't install. As a matter of fact nothing will install, it hangs at Verifying and Downloading. When I check the version of FF it says I'm on 55.0.1 and to restart to update to the newest version. Something is very wrong here .
Firefox 55.0.2 was released earlier today, so it sounds like Firefox may not be closing properly in order for the update to be installed.
Try logging out of your Windows User Account and then log in again. Then open Firefox to see if the update to 55.0.2 gets installed.
Edit: adding a link to the 55.0.2 release notes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/55.0.2/releasenotes/

I totally rebooted my system and it still won't update. What a mess.
Next suggestion?
It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see whether that makes a difference.
No joy. Turned off McAfee and tried to restart the browser, it didn't work. Something is stuck.
Do you see error messages in the Browser Console about the extensions that aren't working?
- "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer

There was one extension mentioned, Recipefox, I removed it, restarted FF, but still no joy. There are errors in that log. Not sure how to save it to show you.
