Firefox did not automatically update to 55, so I had to re-install the browser.
Had 54.0.1 installed, and upon release of version 55 on August 8th, Firefox was still saying my version was up to date. I tried various times throughout the day, and restarted the browser as well. I finally had to re-download Firefox to get version 55. Could this be an issue with my profile?

Updates are rate limited during the several days after release to monitor for show-stopping bugs, so what you experienced is most likely normal.

Best is usually to be cautious if you aren't able to update during the first week to make it possible to investigate and address issues that were reported.

Before you update I strongly suggest to backup your profile folder because since 55+ profile is no more backwards compatible with older versions. And considering bugs 55 contains/ed (especially deleting all your previously opened tabs if home page is about:newtab which is just bogus considering why would homepage matter at all) then you really want to have that profile stored somewhere.
