Want to force update at startup

Hello, I would like to set Firefox across my environment to check for a new update, pull it down and apply the update when the machine reboots and launches Firefox every morning.

Here are some more details: We have around 500 machines across the country at customer locations, mostly Win7-8.1. In the past, due to specific plug-in requirements we had disabled all auto update options. Now those requirements have gone away and would like to have Firefox remain current and auto update itself, but silently so it shows no prompts onscreen. Our machines reboot early every morning and automatically launch into FF after the boot. The goal hopefully is after the morning reboot, that Firefox checks for an update, downloads it, and is applied after the following morning reboot.

What we are testing so far is: - Have enabled Automatic Updates and Background service in the options, - Changed UAC to low so there is no prompt, - Set the Mozilla Maintenance Service to Automatic (Delayed) (I've also tried just Automatic) - Changed App.update.mode to 0 - Changed App.update.silent to True - To suppress the milestone tab after upgrading to FFFv50, I've changed Browse.startup.homepage_overide.mstone to ignore

In my first test of installing Firefox v38 on a machine, it worked perfectly, upgrading in steps from v38, to 43, to 47, and then to v50 after each reboot. However, I must be missing noting something because I cant quite reproduce the original success. Since the original test, the only way I seem to get FF to start pulling the update is by going to Help > About Firefox. For the production roll out, if my original settings will get the job done, I'm fine with that, but to test this here to show a faster version of the process rather than wait a day or week for it to happen, can I adjust the config to: - have FF check and download the whole update, not chunks, when the browser starts after the reboot, - decrease the wait period for it to check for an upgrade

Like I said, I "think" I'm close since it did it the first time, but like a dope, I obviously didnt write everything down so not sure what I missed.

Thanks!

被選擇的解決方法

Maybe reset some timer prefs (app.update.*timer; app.update.lastUpdateTime.background-update-timer) on the about:config page or use a fresh profile to start Firefox.

Firefox needs to be idle for some time to make Firefox check for updates.

Another option is to check for updates yourself and download and apply the updates.mar file manually.

Thanks, I'll look into those some more. An update this morning.. the process is working as wanted for our production deployment. My test machine pulled and upgraded in steps yesterday (did a few manual reboots through the day), and after this mornings automatic reboot, was updated to v50.1, so maybe I didnt miss something.
