My computer won't run on firefox 50. I have good luck with 45, but firefox won't leave on my computer even though I asked that I be informed before a change.

I have an xp computer, but the newest version will not operate on my computer. I now have 49 on it . Will firefox leave it there? I have changed the firefox update, but that doesn't seen to work, since it would not leave the 45 on there, when I asked that I would be notified before a change.

Are you referring to Options > Advanced -> Update --> Firefox Updates where there is an option for "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them."?

Don't use that option!! Better off using Never check for updates, ... The "notification" dialog that informs the user that an update is available is too easily sent to the background behind the main browser window where it won't even be visible; then that message times out within 60 seconds. From there the update is automatically installed and all the user sees is the prompt to restart Firefox to complete the installation of the update.

You already know that Firefox 50 causes you grief, so why even have that "check for updates" enabled?

I agree with cor-el! Use the current Firefox 45.# ESR version so that you get the security updates and not using the Release version updates that WinXP on your device can't handle.

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Update. Check the settings.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

You can consider to use the Firefox 45.6.0 ESR version. That way you will still receive security updates for now until ESR moves to Firefox 52 ESR.

Hmm if Firefox 49.0.2 is running fine then that means you have a CPU that supports SSE2 so Firefox 50 including 50.1.0 should work. Firefox 49.0 and later requires CPU's that support SSE2 now.

No matter what firefox says, the 50 version just stalls my computer. If they don't sallow my 49 version, firefox is no good for me!
