Blank tabs will not close after opening a link for a document of any kind (.doc, .xls, .pdf).

Ever since version 49 has come out most our users here at work have an issue where when they click on a link for a document (pdf, doc, xls, etc.) a new tab opens (which of course is blank) and then stays there - it does not automatically close like it used to. (some users claim to have experienced it with version 48 but i haven't seen it personally).

These links have target="_blank" specified for them so they open in a new tab if the user does not have the browser set to open the document with an external application (such as with a pdf). For most other documents (like MS-Office docs) the user is choosing to open with the system's default application or save them of course.

This has become a huge issue for our business (we have about 50 people onsite) as so many users are complaining and just plain getting confused by the blank tab being left behind because suddenly they no longer see the webpage they were on any more. I know it seems very simple to just close the tab but easy as that is many people don't understand what just happened and just about all of them complain about it at this point.

Our company runs off of Oracle forms via a web browser as well as an Intranet powered by SharePoint and lastly our company's website has many documents we retrieve from too which is from a remote web server. This is really a big deal for us at this point and using IE instead of FireFox is not a good option at all for a lot of reasons (not going in to all of that right now).

What can we do to fix this??? Any help is *appreciated*.
